PRODUCTION
NOTES
In
the brash, do-it-yourself tradition of Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi,
Slow Jam King, is the ambitious feature film debut by Steven E. Mallorca,
who directed, wrote, produced, edited, and shot the film digitally,
mostly with a crew of 3 members on a relentless 31 day shoot. Using
a makeshift shooting setup that included construction lights, various
clamps and a small field monitor, Steve and his crew were able to develop
an effective production scheme that would allow them to shoot a script
that had over 50 characters, and over a dozen locations in New York
City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Nashville, TN. In short, they were
able to come up with a model that allowed them to completely disregard
all the pre-existing rules of no-budget filmmaking.
